Welcome to Lisboa Heritage Lab Participatory Platform!
The site is in a complex and marginalized area in Lisbon. It was originally occupied by houses of aristocrats, then, in the 19th century, by industrial compounds, which is why many workers settled here. In the 20th century, the area was gradually abandoned, being left with many unused warehouses and factories. Today this area is characterized by degraded buildings and a vulnerable, aging, low-income population. It is disconnected from the city by rail tracks and the river, which adds to the perception of abandonment and segregation. The Local Partnerships Program has on-going projects with the local community, aiming at helping their social and economic participation and facilitating their access to education. The “Marquês de Abrantes Palace” Lab will build on the current experience by developing a model of long term sustainability of the rehabilitation of the space.
